I’m excited to share this information from my dear friend and gifted colleague, Anne Ditzler, who will be leading two year-end retreats. Please take a look and share with friends.
Participants can either join with a partner, where both will be working from a shared experience (e.g. spouse, roommate, close business colleague), or join as an individual. We know 2020 has been a tough year. Our old ways were disrupted. It’s been hard to plan ahead. In this retreat I’m offering an opportunity to shift perspective – to ask what worked, what sustained you, what mattered most. Your answers will spark your imagination, allowing you to answer these questions: What were the sources of light and strength for me, and how can I amplify them? And what do I want to carry into the coming year?
This retreat grew out of my own experience, when I led an impromptu one for my wife Erin and I on last New Year’s Day. We hadn’t planned to do a retreat, but there’s something about a new year that makes a person want to take stock. We’d gone through December putting off some discussions about some big things in our life. And then we found ourselves on New Year’s Day, with a hot cup of coffee and the day wide open before us. I suggested we adapt the approach I use in my consulting work – Appreciative Inquiry – and Erin was game. By dinner the next day we both felt we’d made a huge leap forward. We had gained more clarity about our life in two days of focused reflection – interviewing each other, drawing our visions, and puzzling out future options – than we would have in ad hoc conversations over months.
But it wasn’t just the time we invested; it was the method of inquiry we used, one that seeks to identify the positive elements of life and enhance them, that draws on our best experiences, and that builds confidence to move forward, even when we don’t have all the answers. The guiding images we created in those two days have led us gracefully through the turbulence of the past year, including some major life changes. While I can’t promise that this retreat will change your life, I am confident it will help you find your own guiding lights, and that doing so will energize you to enhance them in 2021.
