“Why poor workplace posture can lead to pain (and what to do about it)”
I was pleased to see this headline show up in my news feed from The Washington Post. The reporter describes a familiar litany of positions that lead to the aches and pains of sitting too long at our desks and her expert offers excellent ergonomic advice…all good reminders to me typing right now!
I was even more pleased to see the strengthening exercises suggested by the experts she interviews.
At the same time, strengthening our back bodies provides only one third of the solution. Surprisingly, the article does not mention stretching. Not surprisingly, it also ignores the magic third component: slackening. Using the tools provided by Integrated Positional Therapy, we slacken muscle tension, releasing pain and restoring blood flow. From there, we can stretch and strengthen to maintain balance in our bodies.
Speaking of which, time for a quick movement break.
